Born in Toledo, Ohio, September 6, 1878, Carl Conrad Eckhardt received his B.A. degree from Ohio State University in 1902, when he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to earn his M.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1904 and his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1908. While involved in graduate studies, Eckhardt taught at the University of Missouri.
